2016 Movie Releases

Hi guys,

In our busy schedules we hardly get the time to go the cinema anymore. Cinemas are a place of relaxation and yet North America hit a record low for the number of movie-goers in 2014. People just aren’t interested anymore, especially with the prices of tickets and snacks/drinks rising! Instead, we choose a comfy Saturday in watching our all-time favourite movie in the comfort of our home. However, this means there are more and more empty seats when you go to see a new film and the films themselves are not hitting their grossing mark.

2015 saw the release of Star wars: the force awakens; which broke world records. Spectre, the 24th James Bond film featuring Daniel Craig, hit a gross of $900 million worldwide as tickets sales soared. For the younger readers, 2015 saw the release of The hunger games: Mockingjay part 2 and for those who enjoy comedy, Ted 2 was released.

My favourite release of 2015 (by far!) was The Intern, starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. The intern was a funny, feel-good movie that teaches us we can do anything, at an age; just because age gives us experience it doesn’t mean we can’t have new ones. The film, sweet, soothing and comedic, hit a gross of $194.6 million worldwide.

Already in 2016 I have seen three movie that I LOVED! These include Me before you, How to be single and Alice through the looking glass. While all three were well directed and had skilled actors, all three had a different theme. ‘Alice’ was a family film that stemmed from Lewis Carroll’s children’s story. How to be single ran with the romantic comedy vibe; following Alice (Dakota Johnson) moving to New York city after her break-up from her high-school boyfriend Josh. The film also includes Rebel Wilson, Leslie Mann and Alison Brie as Alice’s friends who help her let loose and have fun. Me before you was based on the emotional novel from Jojo Moyes and starred Sam Claflin as quadriplegic Will Traynor and Emilia Clarke playing Lou Clark; Will’s new carer.

Three upcoming releases that I am excited about is Finding Dory, Bridget Jones’ diary and Fantastic beasts and where to find them. Finding Dory’s release date for the UK is 29th July and Fantastic beasts’ is November 18th. Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres in finding Nemo, taught many 90’s children to ‘just keep swimming’ and since it’s UK release in 2003, it’s second movie has been long-awaited. Fantastic beasts is J.K Rowling’s book based seventy years before the events of her Harry Potter series. Being a Harry Potter fan, I cannot wait to see this movie when it comes out later this year! Bridget Jones’s diary is set to come out late September and is a gollow-up from the two previous Bridget Jones movies- feel good and funny, I can’t wait to see this new movie!

I hope this blog has shown you the breadth of film releases within a year and encouraged you to treat yourself to a cinema ticket. Thanks for reading- Alice.
